Melina Matsoukus creates fireworks for Absolut

4 February 2015

Take a peek at the web film shot behind the scenes on the ABSOLUT shoot in Hartebeespoort just outside of Johannesburg. A massive cube was built and a night club created within it.

The job was shot over 2 nights by Melina Matsoukus. Melina is a LA Based director. Melina is a grammy award winner for her promo video for Rihanna's “We found love”

The DOP was David Devlin, Steve Spielberg’s 2nd unit director. An installation artist was brought in from San Francisco to create the fireworks display.

The performer was Spoek Mathambo a singer-songwriter, rapper defined by his fusion of a wide array of musical influences and his coining the term Township Tech, to describe the electronic music he produces. Mathambo grew up in Soweto.

All in all a stellar cast and crew and we think that the finished product is evidence of this.

“Rooineks” Is the name the boers gave to the English settlers in the old days because their necks were always sunburnt from the harsh South African sun. The name stuck and you still see a fair amount of sunburnt necks about.
